Time has really flown by. Sorry, for my lack of posts. I've lost a bit of blogging and crafting inspiration, lately. I was kinda bummed I didn't make any holiday cards this year (sorry, to my usual Christmas card giftees!) And Pinterest has taken over most of my "web browsing" life. It's just so darn easy to save favorites there. Working longer hours at my day job didn't help, either. Needless to say, it's a new year. Happy, happy 2012! With that said, a bit of good news.

Last month, I got engaged (yay!) and have been knee deep in planning a happy, colorful and very budget-friendly wedding. It's pretty fun, and definitely not the oddball, quickie Vegas wedding I wanted 10 years ago. Eek. Any-who, there's also a few new items I've been working on for the shoppe. Hart's Craft Fair

Some quick shots of my TreeCookies display, at the fair last Sunday. I wish I took more photos, but had lots of fun. Hart's Fabric is quite an amazing fabric store. So happy they decided to throw this little fair in the parking lot, and will have to go back (to shop) sometime, real soon.

late night crafting

My BF was representing his school at a music production conference last weekend, and was looking for some of the old business cards I had made him, awhile back. I wanted to update his info, so I offered to make him new cards. It took a little longer, than expected, but this is what I made.

   I used my handy customizable stamp set and knew I wanted to incorporate a stamp from my collection, as well. It took me a minute or two because I thought it would be cool to use one of my hand carved blocks. They were just way too "cutesy." Then, I knew exactly which one to use.
   BF and I are based out of the SF Bay Area, so I thought the (Golden Gate) Bridge would be perfect. And, it was! I can''t recommend Yellow Owl Workshop, enough. See here, here and here. I love all their awesome products. I am only half way through Print Workshop, and have a ton of bookmarked projects, already. If you haven't seen the book, or any of the projects circulating the internet, you gotta check it out. Not only is there tons of amazing DIY's, but the book is extremely informative. Especially for someone like me, who loves printing by hand.
   The Bridge adds a nice touch, to the cards, and works well since we are also big SF Giants fans.

Where have I been this whole time? The kitchen, mostly. I have also been making TreeCookies like crazy for a little fair I am participating in, soon.    Hi, everyone! OMG-this is an un-posted post, I wrote on March 9, 2009.

   I titled it, "my February stamp suite".. One of my first BIG card projects. Japanese pop art was the inspiration for the cute girl and having a cute saying. That last shot has been my blog banner since I started helloTreecookies. It's almost time to change it up.
   Oh, finished up a business plan, and printed with a cute tree stamp (see here.) I feel really motivated. Ready, and busy..in a great way of course! My January was rejuvenating. How was yours?

Wow-did this holiday season fly. I'm glad today is going slower than usual. It is Christmas after all.

Below, holiday cards I designed when the Giants were in the playoffs..

I didn't have the right ribbon color for my first gift, so I went straight for my big bag-o-yarn! And used pieces throughout the season. Noel gift tags from Eat Drink Chic and some cute Camilla Engman tags, all free to download.

Some late night dessert, while watching 500 Days of Summer. A killer movie starring two of the hippest actors, I think, out there. Case in point: She and Him`s super cute music video, below. BF didn't like the ending, of the film, as much as I loved it. It had some sentimental value, as this was the very first movie I watched, in a theater, all by myself. I treated myself for my birthday, last year. Needless to say, I've been on a few more "alone" movie dates, after that. It's kinda fun.

How's it goin? My fall is going good. I've missed the colder weather and am embracing the rain. My workspace is back, from recent home renovations. I'm all better, from a light cold. The Giants won the World Series! And it's almost time for one of my most favorite holidays (Thanksgiving). I love to cook and bake, and that holiday is a lovely start towards cozy December and New Year's. Gosh, I can't believe it's just around the corner. I've been having a hard time thinking up Christmas card ideas. Just snapping shots for inspiration. Hopefully, "it" comes to me soon.

My kid sister (who isn't really a kid, but I call her that anyways) turned 21 over the weekend. Although, I'm treating her to breakfast, shopping and a sewing class, here, in a couple weeks.. doesn't mean I can get away without making a few little TreeCookies, too. I played with this paper doll kit, and made a "mini Theresa", and then had the BEST idea! Who is one of her favorites?

Totoro! All I did, was trace an image from the web, transfer it to colored card stock and cut, cut, cut and glue away. I had so much fun making him, parading him around my desk for little bit, until it was time to go in the envelope. Along with a Marvy LePen (which are just lovely and oh so colorful.)

I couldn't forget the leaf. Paper Totoro says, "Have a great week!" Maybe, you can try to make your own paper creatures, too? The end result can be quite satisfying.

Bunny and the Bull

A lovely, lovely film trailer. I think its just how imaginative and home-made it looks, that reminds me a little of one of my ultimate favorites, by the amazing Michel Gondry. Not to mention the fact that Bunny and the Bull is directed by Paul King, writer and director of The Mighty Boosh. The film (which stars two of the Boosh stars) is a road trip of sorts, that kinda just takes place in a London flat? Yeah, awesome, I know. Enjoy the trailer.. and the start of fall. I've missed you cold weather. It's been too long.

I've got a new work space, that still needs some organizing, and decorating. I promise to get back to blogging more. And, hopefully I'll have more shop news, by the end of the month.

I made some thank you cards, for some great people who helped celebrate my birthday with me. The Golden Gate Bridge and home stamp is a set from Yellow Owl Workshop (whom I just adore. See here and here.) I picked it up as my souvenir at DeYoung. I also used one of my carved heart blocks and a stamp kit I got at the local office store. Love the orange. Go Giants!

"Poketo takes art off the gallery walls and makes them a part of your everyday life". A design studio and online shop, opening in 2003, by the super awesome (and way cool) couple, Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung. The shop features fun cameras, clothing, home goods and than some. And, I just love all their collaborations with tons of artists from all over the world! They started the company, selling limited edition wallets with designs from the different artists, which you can find here, including photos of out of print wallets.

Not only does Poketo offer great merchandise, they have a wonderful blog, chock full of shop updates, great art and music, travel, current events and yummy yummy food. Needless to say, I love and appreciate what Poketo offers and am so happy with their new line for Target. They're bringing their beloved work nationwide, yo.
Below are two of my favorites... I can't wait to stop by Target this week and pick up a little treat for myself. And if you plan on doing the same, I would hurry. I hear the stuff is going fast.

Mine's going alright. It's pretty nice weather here, in California, right now. The Giants are playing great baseball. My birthday is tomorrow. I've got plans to go to the de Young and a favorite sweet shoppe. I'm very grateful for the friends and family in my life, and couldn't be happier. Hope you're having an awesome summer. A cute little animated film trailer, I found. Who doesn't love beautifully drawn owls. And, in 3D, no less.

By the way, have you seen Inception, yet? It was crazy a w e s o m e. I highly recommend it! Thrilling from beginning to end, and the dreams were so real. If you remember seeing Joeseph Gordan-Levitt in the trailer, the part when he's floating in a hallway... That scene was intense! Everyone in front of the cameras, and behind, did a stellar job. Bravo! I can't wait to see it, again.

Late the other night, I did an Etsy search for greeting cards featuring balloons. And on the very last page, was one of the cutest cards ever! If you've read this blog before, you may know I have a thing for hearts and hearts. So I thought the little balloon (below), featured in a few of Rosy Designs' paper goods, made for the perfect greeting.
It wasn't just the hearts that got me. The overall design and concept is well thought out. From the fun characters she features on each print, to the slightly faded vintage backdrop, to the typewriter style messages.. I had to ask Roselina Hung (Rosy, herself) if her cards were sold at any stationers because I can totally see them there. No local shoppes just yet, but the next best thing. She has a line of cards coming out soon on TinyPrints.com. You gotta check out Rosy happenings on her blog and her Etsy shoppe, where I was happy to have found her. And don't forget her site, RosyDesigns.com.

My lovely boyfriend, Ruben, surprised me with a great movie last weekend. I completely forgot that it had just opened, and thought he was taking me to see Get Him to the Greek. Early Saturday morning, we drove to the theater just outside of town. The closest theater playing the movie. I was ecstatic when he told me we were gonna see MicMacs. The latest work by director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. He's written and directed some of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.. including Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, a Very Long Engagement, and one of my all time favs (maybe one of yours, too) Amelie!
MicMacs tells the story of Bazil (marvelously portrayed by ex-mime Danny Boon) who wants revenge on two rival weapons manufacturers. With the help of some new friends, who guard the local junkyard, magic begins to ensue. Jeunet is a remarkable storyteller. Something so serious, as weapons, is told in such a visually stunning way. It's a modern "classic French film". I loved seeing what the super strong small old dude, Pierre, makes out of some of the junk he finds. Or the contortionist, who just wants to be loved. The cast of characters, including the great Dominique Pinon, all contribute to this gem of a film. I was left, extremely happy, after.

Walked around the local thrift store, with my mom and sis, the other day. This particular store was always a haven for awesome blouses, but I rummaged for about an hour and couldn't find anything good. Perused through the jewelry, and found a great pair of earrings. The price, not so great. So I passed. Next stop-homewares, a long time love. Went down the first aisle, and saw a beautiful teapot! Indecisiveness is one of my weaknesses. I continued down the other aisles then made a turn back to the first one. Inspected the teapot for cracks and blemishes, and didn't find any. Asked my sis what she thought (she approved!). Placed the "new find" in the shopping cart my mom was pushing around, and strolled along the shop, elated with my new and super awesome piece.

I'm not quite sure if I'll use the teapot, often. But I sure do know it'll look great displayed in my kitchen. .like a piece of artwork. The kitchen is one of my most favorite places, so the teapot will make me happy every time I'm there.
The greatest thing about shopping at local thrift stores, flea markets and dollar stores are some of the most magnificent things you encounter. They're what I love to call "good finds".

I wasn't always the best of friends with my mom.. Like during those awkward "teenage years." Now, I understand a little bit more about `em. Hoping to one day be one, myself <3 It's an incredible feeling to know a few new moms. The amount of love and strength that grows each day. It's just so beautiful! Happy Mother's Day.

What I've been up to, lately-

With the country's current economy, work load (at my day job) has been dwindling... It's kind of a good thing. With a bit more time in my hands, I've been given the chance to work on things I'm a little more passionate about. Remember this post? Well... I'm gonna do it! The goal is to get my lil Etsy shoppe up and running by the end of June 2010, introducing a line of paper goods. Making things is the best! And I couldn't be happier.

Here's a quick shot of my desk and some things I have been working on. (more to come!)

And below is a birthday card I made for a new friend. The card starring one of these awesome stamp sets, from Studio Violet. I messed up a little on Manager Kattas face, stamping it too light. So I decided to stamp it over again. I LOVED how awesomely 3D it looked, and did it for Mr. Mustache, too. Oh, mistakes can be grand!

Polaroid, to be exact. Check out 'Roid Week 2010, for tons of cool shots. Started in 2006, the Flickr group began commemorating the art of the instant photo.. encouraging everyone to submit new shots. I've needed new polaroid film, for like ever, and 'roid week's inspired me to "Buy More Film".

Charlotte Gainsbourg

It's so nice to have San Francisco so close (about an hour train ride away). BF and I went to the city a few weekends ago to check out Charlotte Gainsbourg's concert, at the Palace of Fine Arts. A perfect backdrop to a beautiful concert.

I must say, I have a little "girl crush" on Charlotte.. the Science of Sleep (in which she stars alongside Gael Garcia Bernal) is one of my most favorite films! So, I was super stoked to see her perform her music live. IRM is her third album, but this was her very first tour. Her shy mannerisms and nervousness subsided after she warmed up with a few songs. The show started off light, introducing the audience to Charlottes soft voice. I almost wish there was a dance floor.. The music-making me groove around in my seat, all night.

This film reminds me of those quirky love stories I adore. .(Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the Science of Sleep, being among others. But they deserve their own posts another time).. I haven't seen Timer, yet. But the movie trailer is worth checkin out. Do you remember Emma Caulfield from Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the original 90210?

Anthropologie, I found these beautifully detailed "From the Sea" dishes. Kitchenware is, seriously, one of my most favorites because I loove to cook. My fondness for pretty packages and presentation doesn't help, either. Do you see that cool embossed anchor? I could just imagine serving shrimp cocktail on one of the dishes. Key words, "just imagine".. For bf Ruben and I are "on a budget", and planning to move to a new city in the next year or two.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack (hearts)

Have you heard of this show? The animation reminds me of Ren & Stimpy, but totally different. Always, with tons of laughter and wonderment.
Created by cartoonist, Thurop Van-Orman.. It's a story of Flapjack, who is raised by a talking whale named Bubbie. Add in the offbeat Captain K'nuckles, and they're off on fun adventures on the sea and off. There's silly Peppermint Larry and Candy Wife, and "The Most Beautiful Man in the World" catchphrase (teehee), and really CLOSEUP closeups. The water is drawn really cool, and I really dig the the claymation scenes... Oh, and Flapjack and K'Nuckles LOVE candy!

Wild.

From the very beginning of Spike Jonze` Where the Wild Things Are, I was drawn in. Right at that moment, I was Max. As Max runs away from his life, and away from the tribulations that come with it, you're brought to a strange and magical ( yet, very familiar) place. The perfect adaptation of Maurice Sendaks' Where the Wild Things Are.

When I was a kid, I was always a little scared of the monsters in the book. And you kinda get scared of the "monsters" in the film, too. Mr. Jonze and Dave Eggers were able to capture all the different emotions a young kid is going through in a very beautiful and very real way. The blue-ray is out March 2nd, and I can't wait to add it to the collection.

I wonder what the best age would be, for my "future kid" to watch it? :)

store bought pie & home-made whipped cream.

It only took a couple of minutes.. . . . With my hand held mixer (and whisk attachment), I blended a half pint of whipping cream, until it thickened slightly. Then, I added a tablespoon of powdered sugar, a dash of vanilla extract, and continued mixing. When you pull the whisk away, and see the soft peak.. the whipped cream is ready! Just enough for one pie.

This was a great ending to a fun Thanksgiving with my family. And a wonderful start to this holiday season. I'll be back soon, with a review on a fantastic film, I saw this past weekend.

Earlier this week, I awoke with the yearning for... .an awesome cake stand. My love for cooking ( and all things kitchenware ) has led me here. I think it is a definite necessity in my home, and hope to, one day, stumble upon the ultimate vintage find. For now, I've found a few great D.I.Y.'s. The latter, of the three, being my most favourite! Afterall, I do <3 trees.

The possibilities are endless, and a cake stand always adds a bit of "oooh and awww" at little gatherings. But who even needs the party? Just shrink it down to a saucer size, for the ever so beautiful "single cupcake stand". I'm in love with this one, I spotted over at Etsy. .by WhitneySmith. The color is very eye pleasing. "thou shalt eat cake!"

I love anything that involves, my hero, Wes Anderson. He's written and directed some of my most favorite films- the Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and (one of my all-time #1`s) the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The story, humor, and slight bitterness in his films inspire me to "WRITE MORE". .and his movie sets!? breath-taking.

You can imagine.. I jumped with joy after viewing the trailer for his latest flick, Fantastic Mr. Fox. The film`s based on the book by Roald Dahl, of the same name. I've been hearing about the cartoon, for awhile, now. And was pleasantly surprised, to see (in the trailer), that it's been made in stop-motion animation! ~can't wait (hearts)

Oh, since the first time I watched the trailer.. I knew UP was gonna be amazing. And, it truly did not disappoint. If you still haven't seen it, you've gotta check out this heart warming and visually stunning animation.. and in 3D, if yah can.

Quite a lovely story was told...

Don't know if it was my love for balloons that first intrigued me about the film, but if you find a little figure of the house (and balloons), please tell me where to get it!?

Artist, Eric Tan, designed some amazing vintage-inspired posters for the film. I love the retro, travel guide feel. ..creases, included!

Lisa`s Bridal Shower giftwrap= the awesome Domino Book of Decorating, paper shopping bag (cut down the side.. so its flat), some favorite rubber stamps (from Yellow Owl) & an inkpad, scissors & double-sided tape.

The awesome duo behind Studio Violet have brought their beautiful characters to a tea party, with the introduction to (drumroll, please) .. . Circus Violet! Needless to say, I would love to have the whole collection in my home. The design is so whimsical, and I, just adore, the use of color.. or lack of. The subdued pinks and greys, hints of gold.

Thought that I had to wait until this Friday, but the trailer is o u t ! I have been w a i t i n g for this movie to open, and I'm so stoked to, finally, see the trailer. The few ( and only ) available photos I have googled, are amazing. The book has been a favorite since I was a kid, and the drawings are always such an inspiration. oh, and Spike Jonze?! I just love.. beautifully shot films. cinematography. Sometimes, I can get a little teary eyed.. .dream-like films. ohhh<3 Do I need that poster in my office? yes, yes I do <3

BF's b-day card

As much as I love making cards for friends and family, I love purchasing super awesome cards for BF Ruben. I guess, that way I still have the cool "mini prints" in my life. Then, I can frame or display them, later on, for the both of us. .. but, mostly for me?! Is that bad? RedCap produces some of my favorites. Even though Ruben's not blond, I adore the drawing of the couple and the beautifully subdued ink colors. The "I love you" part reminds me of my own style of writing.

The card on the bottom is part of a stationery set (also, by RedCap), that I had been eyeing for the longest time, and finally bought. I heart hot air balloons.

I love giving note sets & stationery as gifts. Especially, jazzing them up. In this case, something, so simple, as a little deer doodle. Hmm, deer doodle? That sounds funny, but you know what I mean. .an outline.

I drew my little deer on some leftover card stock, so I had a stencil. Traced the stencil on some decorative paper (from my scrap paper stash). .Cut them out.. and voila! Then, I ran the deer through my handy little sticker maker. Glue sticks are great for kids, but I needed some extra reinforcement, that the mini xyron (sticker maker) provides. An adhesive eraser helps get rid of the sticky gunk around the sticker. and, again, with the .. voila!

Tied some twine around the cards, and threw `em in a handmade envelope, along with a stamped birthday card.

Oh, did this little set inspire so many more ideas! You'll see My Little Deer, again, soon.

I was so excited to see Coraline (in 3D), last friday. About a half hour into the movie, a blackout occurs. Aww, so bummed, was I. We had to take a rain check. This afternoon, we finally got to finish the film. A quick walk through the food court, because the theater is located in the mall. Bought a corndog and fries, from Hotdog on a Stick. And, I had a "star" on my receipt, which means I won a free medium lemonade! haha. Boyfriend, Ruben, and I walked passed Cinnabon, and walked right back to pick one up. A quick look for our favorite flavors at the gumball stand, and off we go to the theater..

So, Coraline was so beautiful, so amazing. 3D=awesome, subtle at times, and crazy in others. I can't believe all the hard work that went into the film. Gumby, James and the Giant Peach, the NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Claymation is freakin cool.

Yesterday, Scarlett Johansson did a favor for Jay Leno. She caught a cold from Spirit co-star, Sam Jackson. Blew her nose unto a tissue, signed the plastic ziplock that held the used thing &.. as of 1am, Thursday morning.. . the current bid ( oh! because its being auctioned off on Ebay! ) is at $1,625 usd. All proceeds go to benefit USA Harvest. weird,huh?

22-december-08: the tissue ended up going for 5,300.00 usd.

A brisk summer weekend, in San Francisco. It was the Outside Lands Music festival (Radiohead night), when I decided to grab an iced coffee at one of the food vendors at the festival.

Why do I continue to get iced coffee drinks when it's cold? When I lived in NY, I would always grab a coffee at one of the stands before work & I could never wait long enough, for my hot coffee, to cool before I was at work. Coffee & Cigarettes, one of my favorites. An iced coffee always sufficed.

Anyways, back to the festival.. Displayed, at the coffee shack were some YUMMY looking sandwich cookies, covered in powdered sugar. Is that caramel in between? "Alfajores", the nice counter lady declared. "Iced coffee and an alfajor, please!" I, just about, died and gone to heaven as I walked away, with alfajor in hand. I really didn't want to share it with Ruben. But he would have needed to experience the cookie, just as much as me. They're that good.

The next day... I forgot what they were called!? A couple weeks later, I awoke to Ingrid Hoffman's Simply Delicioso. She was making alfajores! I vowed to myself.. never to forget the name of these Argentinean cookies, again.

Above, is a shot of my own homemade version. They turned out really good, but I'll need a lil more practice to perfect it. Recipe, thanks to mattbites.

Last week: "Turn around, I'm ordering your Christmas present (online)"- BF, ruben. I had no idea what he was getting me. 2 days ago: The shipped box lay on my laptop. "Should I wait until Christmas to open it?"... "Oh, what the hell!" Three cloth wrapped ..things ( I didn't know what), labeled seascape, landscape and winterscape. As I shook the parcel, I knew immediately. "..all three of them!?"

These are so beautiful! Thanks to the Curiosity Shoppe.. where I first fell in love with yellow owl workshop. think about good people, simple things in life.. don't let stress get to you, especially this time of year. i heart my jigah, ruben.

Yesterday, I made some lemon cupcakes with a lemon buttercream. Yummy, fresh and easy to make. I used a box of yellow cake mix. I added some lemon juice to the water you're supposed to add to the mix. For the frosting, I mixed a cup of butter with 2 1/2 cups of powered sugar. And another squeeze of lemon juice. I went easy on frosting the lemoncakes, and sprinkled a little lemon peel on top. I used the juice of half a lemon. They went great with some Cooks Extra Dry. I love long weekends.

Currently, I am working on a couple of gocco prints..finishing touches on some sketches. Really excited about my new work area. Almost ready to print! I can take a long time creating and making. Which is why I'm proud of my work, 100%.
I hope to post some stationery and notebooks (4-sale on etsy.com) by spring of '09.. I am also putting together some jewelry, which I haven't been working on, in awhile. I really want the shoppe to be successful, which is why its gonna take a little longer. All hand-made by me, Jonahliza.
